An archived ERCOT report is useful for examining a past assessment and its assumptions. Use the current reporting month for forward decisions; summer 2025 warnings are not current forecasts.
Use the relevant reporting period
ERCOT publishes Monthly Outlook for Resource Adequacy reports and archives. Check reporting month, release date and scenarios. Assessments are conditional; they do not guarantee uninterrupted service or an outage.
Summer 2025 and 2026 reports are historical as of this October 2026 review. Use current reports for forward planning and archives to examine past events.
Separate price and physical risk
Wholesale exposure depends on retail terms. Fixed, indexed and hybrid products have different exclusions. Review actual payment obligations during stressed hours.
Physical continuity depends on delivery equipment and the emergency plan. A fixed rate is not backup power, and backup equipment does not hedge every contractual charge.
Account checklist
- Provider and utility territory.
- Energy, demand and delivery components.
- Indexes, pass-throughs and adjustments.
- Usage limits, termination and load changes.
- Applicable peak measurement.
- Renewal and transition dates.
Plan safe flexibility
Identify movable loads using interval data and operator approval. Review eligibility, testing, payments and penalties for any program. Texas accounts do not all have identical coincident-peak treatment. Confirm tariff and method.
Prepare for interruptions
List critical loads, duration and recovery steps. Verify transfer, maintenance and fuel with qualified professionals. Grid-connected solar or storage needs appropriate design for outage operation.
Use budget scenarios
Model stressed prices for exposed components, shifting costs and backup limits. Assign tenant communication and decision responsibilities before emergencies.
