A useful case study shows baseline, intervention, costs and measured result. The examples below are hypothetical calculations, not Jaken client outcomes.

Example 1: supply comparison

Assume 300,000 annual kWh. A comparable 9-cent supply offer costs $27,000; an 8-cent offer costs $24,000. The difference is $3,000 if inclusions and fees match: 300,000 × ($0.09 − $0.08).

This is not total-bill savings. Include delivery, demand, taxes and unequal fees before budgeting.

Example 2: efficiency payback

Assume $24,000 installed cost, $4,000 estimated annual avoided expense and $400 annual service. Net benefit is $3,600 and simple payback is $24,000 ÷ $3,600, about 6.7 years before financing and tax effects.

Simple payback omits discounting, degradation and replacement. Verify estimated use changes with equipment power, hours and actual tariff charges. Count only approved incentives.

Example 3: owner-retained benefit

Assume utility expenses fall $10,000, tenant reimbursement falls $7,000 and a new annual service costs $1,000. The owner retains $2,000: $10,000 − $7,000 − $1,000.

Lease language determines the actual allocation. Any valuation scenario needs a separately stated capitalization assumption and market context.

A documented case study includes

  • Property, accounts and operating conditions.
  • Baseline bills and normalization.
  • Exact change and implementation date.
  • Costs, verified incentives and obligations.
  • Measured outcomes distinct from estimates.
  • Weather, occupancy and operating changes.
  • Permission to publish identifiable information.

Do not add savings percentages

Supply-rate and energy-use reductions apply to different quantities. Calculate final cost from new use and prices instead of adding percentages. Demand effects need their own measurement.

Begin with evidence

Gather bills and supply agreements. Use contract comparison for entered offers and the property-owner guide to identify who receives benefits.
